Position Summary:
The Facility Maintenance position primary responsibility is to keep
the facility clean and free of damage, to maintain, within reason,
the facility and to keep it functioning safely and properly,
including janitorial responsibilities, inside and outside
maintenance, and keeping inside spaces organized and free of
hazards that could cause harm to others.
Essential Functions:
- To clean and maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, classrooms,
hallways, kitchen, gym, all social services spaces and office
spaces, fireside room, fellowship hall, playground, parking lot and
outside planter areas, including the grass field and the upper
parking lot.
- To perform minor maintenance inside or outside the building
including but not limited to; changing light bulbs, patching holes
in walls, painting, moving shelves, and other furniture.
- Help maintain vehicles including but not limited to taking to
car wash, oil changes, keeping vehicles fueled, keeping them clean
and free of damage. Report all incidents immediately.
- Maintain good public relations, Function in harmony with The
Salvation Army guidelines, promote, direct and support special
events and activities for assigned Corps.
- Answering the telephone, making phone calls, answering the door
when available to do so, and interacting with clients needing
services, when not performing other duties.
- Perform Driving duties on occasion including picking up food,
toys, or other materials such as cleaning or janitorial supplies,
as needed, and as assigned.
- Some computer data entry including stats, client input, gift in
kind, and ordering supplies, and other computer related
responsibilities as needed and when not performing other
duties.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting
program demands.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and
twist on a continuous or intermittent basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, filing
cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's
License.
- Must successfully complete The Salvation Army's driver safety
program before driving and will be required to recertify annually
as required.
- Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation
Army's Fleet Safety Program. (The Salvation Army Fleet Safety
Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two (2)
moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period; see The
Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy).
Working Conditions:
Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an
intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to
lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file
cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer,
fax, copy machine and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Additional
Education helpful.
- Basic computer knowledge and typing skills, including Word,
Publisher, and Excel. (No minimum wpm required)
- Ability to read, write and communicate well in English.
Bilingual in English/Spanish is beneficial, but not
required.
- Ability to use multi-line network telephone system.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Must be committed to The Salvation Army's Christian Mission and
Ministry.
- Detail oriented, self-motivated and team player with excellent
communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to keep information
confidential.
- Must have a willingness and flexibility to learn and do new
tasks, including but not limited to EDS and Canteen
service.
- Must have knowledge of cooking and preparing meals, and a
willingness to prepare meals for large numbers of people.
