Job Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, the Safety
Coordinator provides program support to ensure organization
compliance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the
following: provides key coordination duties and assist in support
of the health & safety, injury prevention, and environment of care
programs; ensures compliance, confidentiality and displaying
discretion in all matters. Assist leadership with related project
development and administration in the areas of safety. Serve as a
resource to internal/external customers. Work with administrative,
supervisory and other personnel to identify and correct unsafe
practices or conditions. Serve as a training resource for the
safety programs. Recommend modification in hospital department
facilities and practices to develop safer working conditions and
improve work environment. Work with assigned hospital staff to
eliminate or control health & safety hazards. Assist in the
management of safety related equipment inventory and organization.
Possess the knowledge, principles, techniques of industrial health
and safety; training methods and techniques. Thorough understanding
of California laws and regulations, Joint Commission and Title 22
requirements, as they relate to health & safety, and environment of
care. , care. Ability to take direction and assist in the
implementation of health and safety programs, studies and surveys
to determine hazards, and to make recommendations for controls.
Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships; effectively
contribute to activities necessary to achieve the department's
goals.
Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to
satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax,
photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills
(i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet,
e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of
keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting
items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders,
copying and similar operations required upon employment or within
the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions
of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar
Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards.

HealthJob RequirementsMinimum Education: Associates degree in
Occupational Safety or a related scientific field (e.g., natural
sciences, etc.) and/or combination of education and experience and
advanced training in occupational health & safety, emergency
management, or environmental management
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety or a
related scientific field (e.g., natural sciences, etc.)
Minimum Experience: 1-3 years related program coordination
At least one year of experience in at least two areas of emergency
management, health & safety, environmental management.
Preferred Experience: 3-5 years related program coordination in a
healthcare environment
Required Certification: Not Applicable
Preferred Certification: ASP, CSP, CIH, CHSP
Required License: Valid Driver's License
Preferred License: Not Applicable
