Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, the
Quality and Medical Safety Pharmacy Specialist, manages and
implements Palomar Health healthcare system medication safety
initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the
following: Collect, analyze, and develop quality improvement action
plans for the medication/IV error and adverse drug reaction
reporting programs. Coordinates and reports the pharmacy
department's quality assurance activities and improvement plans.
Oversee the Palomar Health Medication Error Reduction Plan.
Actively participates on the Patient Safety Committee and assemble
the agendas for the Medication Management Committee. Reports
quality and safety issues to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Committee and Quality Management Committee, the Board Quality
Review Committee, or the Medical Executive Committees. .
Participate on Root Cause Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects
Analysis (FMEA) teams when appropriate. Collaborate with Risk
Management to develop safety reports to appropriate governing
bodies. Develops safe medication policy and reviews
medication-related procedures from other departments as
appropriate. Spearhead regulatory standards compliance efforts for
Pharmacy. Serve as a resource on medication safety and education.
Writes and publishes articles for Palomar Health publications, such
as the pharmacy and nursing newsletters. The position is exempted
from any responsibility involving California Pharmacy laws unless
there is clear overlap with Joint Commission, California Department
of Public Health, or the Code of Federal Regulations.
Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to
satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax,
photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills
(i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet,
e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of
keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting
items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders,
copying and similar operations required upon employment or within
the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions
of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar
Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards.

Preferred Education: Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D)
