Job Description Job Description Cost Accountant Location: Oceanside, CA 92056 Employment Type: Contract (3–5 weeks) Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite | Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Start eta 01/12/26! Compensation: $45.00 - $60.00/hr. D.O.E. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support an established electrical engineering group on a short-term contract assignment. This role is fully onsite and will focus on job cost accounting, certified payroll, and project cost control to ensure accurate financial tracking and compliance across active projects. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain job cost accounting, including tracking labor, materials, overhead, and project-related expenses. Prepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including prevailing wage and Davis-Bacon requirements. Ensure payroll and job cost data align accurately with project budgets, contracts, and labor agreements. Reconcile payroll, general ledger, and job cost accounts to ensure financial accuracy. Monitor project profitability and provide cost variance analysis and reporting. Collaborate closely with project managers, payroll, and operations teams to resolve discrepancies. Maintain compliance with labor laws, union requirements, and government reporting standards. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes as needed. Support internal and external audits by providing payroll, job cost, and financial documentation. Maintain well-organized, accurate, and audit-ready financial records. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred). 3 years of accounting experience with job costing and certified payroll, ideally within construction, electrical, or engineering environments. Strong working knowledge of prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements, including Davis-Bacon compliance. Hands-on experience using Contractor Five for job cost accounting, payroll processing, and project financial tracking. Experience with accounting systems such as Sage, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar ERP/accounting platforms. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
